A Trip Upstate, La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Sunscreen + Sunscreen Reapplication Techniques, MAC Oyster Girl Lipglass
RIP Slide Mountain Inn + where have all all the pearlescent glosses gone
Last weekend, Sam and I traveled upstate a couple days before a friend’s wedding to spend some time (relatively) unplugged in the great outdoors.

On our way to our Airbnb in Big Indian, we decided to stop for dinner at a place Sam found on some Brooklyn-based blog. It was called the Slide Mountain Inn. I say “was” because apparently we visited during their last weekend in business after 90 years and five generations. I found it very depressing when they told us, but I’m happy for the owners and their newfound freedom! It was so quaint and charming, and we had fantastic smoked ribs and well cocktails. No notes except I wish we had found this gem earlier. You can still see the place online if you’re curious.

As with any weekend between just us two and the Great Outdoors, I packed the bare minimum with an emphasis on sun care and moisture. The latter featured the usual suspects (Aveeno Oat Gel Moisturizer and Vaseline Cocoa Butter Lip Therapy), but for sun care I pulled out a relative newbie.
The sunscreen I brought was the La Roche-Posay SPF 50 Cicaplast sunscreen (Euro version, this link is for the US). I found the sunscreen to be really moisturizing in a way that I don’t think I could use it every day when it’s humid or hot in the city but in the cool and drier mountain air, it was absolutely perfect. I got this one in France quite a while ago, but it’s been living in my random sunscreen drawer, and I just remembered to bring it out. No white cast because it uses chemical filters and has that European panache a.k.a. better SPF filters than the US.
I used the new Real Techniques combo sponge compact to reapply it when needed. I keep a sponge in my bag to reapply on the go for when I’m not able to like wash my hands before. It’s helpful this compact has a mirror. I am sure I’ve spent many a trip walking around with unblended sunscreen because I normally just use a sponge sans mirror.
Beyond that I thought about one thing that I want to poll the audience about. If any of you here are MAC Lipglass users: did they change the formula of Oyster Girl? I swear that when I watched it only a few months ago in an Ulta it was way more pearlescent than the version I saw at DFW on a trip a couple of weeks ago which looked more glittery. The two finishes are not mutually exclusive necessarily, but lately I prefer a pearlescent finish with as few visible glitter particles as possible.
I love Revlon’s Super Lustrous The Gloss in Lean In, and was hoping to grab Oyster Girl as it’s a bit cooler in tone. I unfortunately did not take a photo of the first Oyster Girl I saw at Ulta in NKY for a direct comparison. I will be on the lookout, though. Still a gorg gloss, don’t get me wrong. Just not what I’m on the market for.

What glosses are we using and loving lately? Do you have a stellar pearlescent recommendation? I’m listening! — <3 Addison
I’m currently trying out Elf’s hydrating core lip shine. It’s a good gloss/moisturizer combo but I’m lukewarm on the color I picked… it’s super subtle though so nbd! A good option for my sunscreen only days!
I love the sponge technique for reapplying! x
